‘‘The native nature is a source of strength and energy recovery’’

‘‘We need to protect green areas in cities’’

Prepared by Nikita Myshov, Anton Potapov and

Vlad Tishchenko

The interview with Robert Walton, UK, Queen’s counselor (exclusive on the website only)

What was the main goal of your presentation today? (00:40)
Main goal was to tell the conference about how the British planting system works and how it balances economic growth with environmental protection.

Do you think that we have the right track for improvement of Voronezh?
Can you compare it with Birmingham? It can be a good example.(01:08)
Certainly for what I’ve seen it’s absolutely right. But it needs to be kept under review for a whole time because from the start you have to have a good people, working hard to make sure it happens .. yes, it looks good to me.

Like queen’s counselor, do you have an opportunity to contact her directly or how it works? (01:45)
If we’re speaking about queen herself I can show you a picture, that will make you laugh - this is me and my dad. So we got this from the queen and it doesn’t... it’s a big piece of paper and that will make you....
but I got it not from the queen but from law chancellor.

Any way the lawyers, especially you, ... do they influence businesses, enterprise, for example, build not how they want but with environmental standards? (02:44)
Yes, for the UK it’s so important. If you’ve building, housing or a factory you have to show what have unacceptable impact on the environment. For example, ecology, traffic- you have to show that there’s no problem in these spheres. But if there’s a problem you have to pay money to fix it, to make sure it works. So, every housing scheme in London has to pay money toward cross rail - new transport project under London. So every new development in London has to pay a tax in a fund of cross rail because more buildings- more people, more people- more transport, and that’s how we’re funding our transport projects.
Will these underground roots (roads) will hold the way underground ? (04:13)
-Right. In London they’re massive and it’s gonna go right from ... to Heathrow airport.
⁃ Are there any stops? (04:32)
⁃ Yes, there are some stops in center of London, but not to many.
⁃ And who is sponsor, the main organizer ?
⁃ It’s the government’s idea and then the mayor of London.
⁃ Is that a private sector ? (05:00)
⁃ No, exactly. There is no ability for a private sector to build roads or railways. It all government lets
⁃ Do you consider the prime minister nowadays will think more about ecology than the previous one - Theresa May? (05:22)
⁃ He was very keen to build new airport. He wanted to build and now we can see a new airport. Different flyings from Russia, Germany and build a road into London. It’s not worth, because it has an enormous impact on the environment.
