Mikhail Youzhny read his own poem after winning the match at St.Petersburg Open 2018
Earlier this August, before US Open, well-known Russian tennis player, who brought the vicrory to Russia in DFavis Cup final in 2002, two-times semi-finalist of majors, winner of 10 ATP titles, former 8th platyer in the tennis world - 36 year-old Mikhail Youzhny announced that that St.Petersburg Open would be his final in his ATP career.
The 19th of September has come and Mikhail's fans, many from different cities, gathered on Saint Petersburg's Sibur Arena especially to see their favourite player, maybe the last time alive. Mikhail's participant was Bosnian player Mirza Basic, last year's Kremlin Cup finalist.
The first set was a bit nervous, and Mirza got ahead with a break 4-3. However, Misha became much stronger and more confident in the next game on the Bosnian's serve and equaled the score – 4:4. Interestingly, Misha was able to make Mirza really “fall of his feet” in one of the points – after that the match was going in the right direction and Mikhail won the first set on a tie-break 7/6 and the second set 6/4 deserving to have such victory on such a special day match.
The most interesting happened in the end, when Misha read his own poem:
If playing every week in Piter
And see the darling's faces,
Then I READY playing all the time
36 is not the ages
Cause I am still a guy inside.
But, to go abroad so often
I am slighly tired anyway.
But at home it's all another:
I have courage and I can
To play with TOPs as equals
Though it will be once a year.
